Projects submitted to the 1st edition of the Baltic Horizons competition

The competition marks a beginning of collaboration between artistic institutions and creators from the Baltic Sea region. Invitations to take part in its first edition were sent to partners from Finland (Espoo Museum of Modern Art), Latvia (Art Museum Riga Bourse, part of Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art in Riga), Lithuania (Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius) and Poland (National Museum in Gdańsk).

Each of the above mentioned institutions nominated several great artists from their countries to take part in the competition; they were each asked to create a piece for the public space of Sopot. All pieces entering the competition needed to tackle the issues of climate change and human impact on the natural environment, especially in the Baltic Sea region. The competition jury, including representatives of the organizing parties as well as independent experts, is to select one piece which will be realized in autumn this year in the Sopot Northern Park, as part of the project “Sopot the City of Sculpture”.
